Bonjour,
Je passe mon oral d'anglais noté pour le BAC en début de semaine prochaine (du 22 au 24 mai) et j'aimerais savoir si vous pouviez m'indiquer les erreurs que j'ai pu commettre.
Merci
I'm going to tell you about the notion of idea of progress. First of all, the idea of progress is the idea of moving forward, progressing, improving, developing, perfecting. There is an idea of evolution toward something better, of making the world a better place. There are several forms of progress. On one hand, there is the social progress like the improvement of the quality of life, the obtaining the right to vote, freedom, the access to drinking water for persons who didn't have the access before,... One the other hand, there is technological progress which has permitted modernization and so for example the appearance of machines, cars, electric appliances,... and which are constantly progressing with the advent of the news technologies. Finally, there is the scientific progress which permit perfecting the medicine for example. All these dimensions of progress make it possible to increase the quality of life of the human being and drive him more and more important in each of these fields. The desire for evolution and improvement guides the human being.
For example, during the great discoveries, Europeans engaged in intensive exploration of the Earth, mapped the planet and made direct contacts with Africa, Asia, America and Oceania. The diffusion of knowledge through the printer, exchanges with the Arabs and the spirit of adventure and the ambition of some people have contributed to important advances in the art of navigation and shipbuilding. This allowed the design of the caravel, a high, fast and manageable in the water. It had three masts which combined Latin sails and square sails. This also allowed the design of the compass, the astrolabe, the stern rudder and navigation charts.
Another, the author Jodi Picoult evokes a new form of progress in his novel My sister's keeper: designer babies. A designer baby is a human embryo that has been genetically modified, usually according to the wishes of parents or scientists, to produce specific characters. They use various methods, such as gene therapy. Designer babies can be created especially to donate organ and save other sick people. For some people, designer babies are the science of tomorrow to save the children of today. But, there are many controversies and some designer babies don't agree that they are used to donate their organs in particular and want to be considered normal human beings as is the case of Anna in the novel.
Finally, over time, medicine hasn't stopped progressing. Today we can treat some cancers, such as breast cancer or prostate cancer for example, we can know if we have the AIDS virus through a test sold in pharmacies, … There are also many technological advances, such as the use of nanoparticles. So, the progress became the center of life in the 21st century.
