Really/Place
Message de darkness18 posté le 10-07-2015 à 18:25:49 (S | E | F)
Hello everyone,
There is something which perplexed me... I know that the word "really" is put after the subject when the verb is not composed of 2 parts like :
"I really want to show you my new phone !"
But when the verb is composed of 2 parts, "really" is put between these :
"I've really tried to help you, trust me !"

Recently I saw a structure that I'd never seen before :
“I like the idea of doing something not everyone paid attention to”
“And for me, that’s been songwriting, really
“It was always this private thing that no one else saw, just for me.”
(This is from the video) Lien internet

"really" is at the end of the sentence, so if I follow this logic, I can do that :
" I want to show you my new phone, really"
Is it correct ? Can all the adverbs undergo this shift ?
Thank you for your answers.

Hello everyone,
I would like to bring my perspective to this situation

“I like the idea of doing something not everyone paid attention to”
“And for me, that’s been songwriting, really”
“It was always this private thing that no one else saw, just for me.”

The place of the adverb in this sentence makes sense. "really" reinforces the sentence and support the author's position. it is a form of conviction or persuasion.

“I like the idea of doing something not everyone paid attention to”
“And for me, that’s been songwriting, seriously
“It was always this private thing that no one else saw, just for me.”

Thanks and have a good weekend

Hello,
It is a form of insistance, after a pause in the sentence, in your voice, to emphasize the idea.
Putting really at its regular place wouldn't have the same meaning.
It means, seriously /believe it or not/ however incredible it may seem.

Thank you for your quick answers !
So, if I've unsterstood correctly, I can put whenever I want the word "really" at the end, especially when I want to insist on the sentence ?
If I want to insist more, can I add "do" and put really at the end ?
Normal : I like hanging out with my friends.
A little more insistent : I do like hanging out with my friends/ I really like hanging out with my friends.
Very insistent : I do like hanging out with my friends, really.
Am I right ?

Hello, darkness !
I can't tell you if you are right concerning your last question, but when you write : So, if I've unsterstood correctly, I can put whenever I want the word "really" , I think you should write "anywhere" instead of "whenever"
Is there someone to confirm ?
Have a nice evening

Hello, Chrys,
anywhere = n'importe où, ne convient pas.(at the end est le complément de lieu de la phrase)
whenever I like = à chaque fois que, quand je veux.

, désolée, Darkness !!!! Et dire que j'étais assez fière de moi d'avoir une aide à apporter ...

Gerondif, je pensais que "quand je veux" et "à chaque fois que", impliquaient une notion temporelle plutôt que spatiale, comme ici, la place du mot dans la phrase.
