Quelqu'un pourrait-il m'expliquer la signification de How about? et what about? j'ai cherché et j'ai beaucoup de mal à comprendre.
Je débute en anglais.

1) ces deux formules synonymes sont suivies d'une forme en ing et sont une invitation, une suggestion pour faire quelque chose:
How about going to the cinema ?
What about going to the restaurant ?
2) Elles s'utilisent à l'oral face à un interlocuteur et signifient: et si on allait au cinéma ?....
3) Elles seraient difficiles à passer au discours indirect.
John says to Jenny: "What about going to the cinema ?"
John asked Jenny if she would like to go to the cinema with him.
John asked Jenny if she felt like going to the cinema.
4) Voici quelques formules d'invitation à l'action:
What about going to the cinema ?
How about going to the cinéma ?
Let's go to the cinema!
Let's go to the cinema, shall we ?
Shall we go to the cinema ?
Would you like to go to the cinema with me ?
Would you like us to go to the cinema ?
I would like you to go to the cinema with me.

En plus des explications de gerondif qui sont justes, on peut aussi employer "How/What about" dans des formules comme "How/What about you?" (qui est l'équivalent de 'and you?')
What about me/him? = Et moi/lui alors?
Pour ce dernier, 'what' sonne mieux que 'how'.
