Bonjour,
The notion « spaces and exchanges » deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all societies occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. The public space represents all areas of transit and rally. That doesn’t belong to anyone and it can use by everyone. An exchange is the act of giving or receiving something in substitution for something else. The exchange can take several forms: economic, cultural, politic, or it can be a movement of people. Can we exchange with new people? What is the importance of spaces? First we will speak about the exchanges between students and in a second time we will tackle (aborder) the Chicano’s status to see how a space can be important.
The characteristic of man is to exchange knowledge and properties with other communities. A good example of exchange between different groups is student exchange. A student exchange program is a program in which students from a secondary school or university study abroad. A student exchange program may involve (impliquer) international travel, but does not necessarily require the student to study outside of his or her home country. This can happen in other sense. A student from another country could go and stay in your home and he will share your life. For the both experiment, we take part in an international experience. We go abroad, on new spaces to exchange with other people.
Everybody born on a territory that would become his living place, this person will be attached; he will have benchmarks (repères) and knowledge about this place. Let’s take the case of Chicano’s community. They are Mexican/Americans who assert their identity of cultural, ethnic and community pride. They live on the American’s territory. But the Mexican state not considered the Chicanos as entire Mexicans and the American state doesn’t accept the Chicanos like native Americans. Chicanos feel they belong to neither (aucune) of the two cultures. So they denounce that with artistic works, like muralism in LA, screen-printing, epic poems … They protest because they are victims of the lack of recognition.
The spaces’ notion is inseparable of the notion of exchanges. To live in a new space without benchmarks we have to talk with people, so we communicate. Communication is the basis of exchange. More, when we live an our native territory, but if we are different than the others we claim (revendiquer) our identity in different forms, we externalizing (extérioriser) our feelings so we echange.
Merci beaucoup !!
