Bonjour à tous,
sur le thème "j'aime/je n'aime pas"
pourquoi dans la négation on dit "I would prefer not to...." et non " I would not prefer to..."

Comme en français:
Je ne préfère pas / je préfère ne pas
I wouldn't/don't prefer to have tea ...mais en fait s'il n'y a que ça, tant pis
I (would) prefer not to have tea...là je préfère m'abstenir sinon je risque d'être malade
La nuance est légère mais elle existe.

You need to look at what follows.
I would prefer not to (verb-It's really the infinitive).
I would prefer not to drink tea for breakfast. I would not prefer to drink tea for breakfast. I wouldn't prefer...
I would not prefer (noun/gerund)
I would not prefer drinking tea for breakfast. I wouldn't prefer...
I would not prefer tea to coffee for breakfast. I wouldn't prefer...
