On Wednesday February 5th, a Spanish ship transporting eleven crew members collided with a dike in Anglet. All the people were saved but the boat contained many tons of diesel oil ^ which 20 tons of diesel oil was scattered in the water.
Fortunately it didn't pollute the beaches of Anglet and the analyses had showed that the water wasn’t polluted. It could have been worse.
But we know that there were harmful consequences.
Indeed, a recent study showed the level of water pollution. In Anglet? (Non je fais par rapport au monde puis après je reviens en France en parlant de la méditerrané). It’ s getting worse and worse.
The quantitie of what people throw in the oceans are considerable: More than 6 million tons of waste thrown ^on
every year such as wood, bottles, old fishing nets, plastic waste and leaks of diesel oil . Plastics alone account for 41 % of the waste founding the deep waters, whereas 35% of waste matter is from fishing's activities .Waste material pollutes waters when they float or move in various depths and provoke diseases and deaths to marine species. We could think that the French coasts are saved by pollution but the Mediterranean Sea is the most polluted zone of Europe
So if we want to protect our coast, we should at least pre-sort waste and recycle instead of throwing waste in the sea and we should avoid leaks of diesel ^
