Hello,
I would like to know what
Thank you for your help..
I couldn't afford that big a car.
It was so warm a day that I could hardly work.
She is too polite a person to refuse.
For the first example, is it 'I couldn't afford that big a cars' ?
I'm puzzled because that structure requires 'a' at all cost to work but it seems odd with plural nouns.

Hello,
obviously, a can't be followed by a plural.
I would either say: I could not afford such big cars!
or:
I could not afford * cars that big !
(such modifies cars whereas that modifies big)
I would also change the others:
These were such warm days that I could hardly work.
These days were so warm that I could hardly work.
They were too polite people to refuse
These people were too polite to refuse.

Okay, so this exact structure only works with singular sentences/nouns!
Thanks for the reply!
