The hippie movement reached its peak in 1966-67 . This movement began in San Francisco, California and has spread across the United States, Canada and parts of Europe. The principle of this movement was to rebel against the establishment and its principle fundamental was hedonism. It was a youth movement , young people between 15 and 25 and they came from different backgrounds. In general they had left their families. The hippies were considered aliens by the rest of America. They shocked many Americans with their different lifestyles and beliefs.
The Hippies were highly peaceful . They opposed the war in Vietnam by setting up events like at Washington DC in November 1969. The hippies were also committed for racial equality and civil rights . They protested by musical gatherings and peaceful sit-in against the values embodied by the economic and military activities.
The music was a mainstay of the movement. Their music was very creative and a lot of artists like Jimi Hendrix , Janis Joplin and Bob Dylan that his music served to defend causes. Illicit drugs was very active in the movement of Hippies . The most famous marijuana was tested by 8 million Americans.
Which marked the history of Hippies are also the largest free festivals they have organized. The Woodstock Music was the most iconic moment of Flower Power movement . This concert , which was held in New York to host 500,000 people.
