Hello

What does " go on " in this sentence mean?
The class will go on a trip to the park.
Thank you for your answers.

Hello,

Going on a trip is something very common.
I think it's equal to trip as a verb.
You can say "the class will perform a trip to the park".
I think that the verb "to go" is not a phrasal verb and is apart from "on".
"On" is a preposition for "trip" in this sentence.

Hello,
"to go on" can mean to continue when it is a phrasal verb:
Start running.
Go on running!
Keep running!
Stop running.

But here it is just an expression.
Just as you are in a car but on a plane, on a train , on a bus,
just as you work on a farm, you go on a trip to Wales, you travel to Wales.
You can also go on strike !

Hello!

"On" is a preposition in this sentence:
You can go on a trip, on a journey, on a school outing, on an excursion, ...
Link

"Go on" is a phrasal verb = fit, continue, proceed, pass, behave, .... The meaning dépends on the context.

Hello,
I think a trip is the same as a short travel.
I come to work and I trip to the park everyday.

Hello mtg,

Sorry but even if a trip is in a way some synonym for journey , travel is not ! It is not a noun , it is a verb .
You travel = you go on a trip , a journey, a drive , a ride ...
To me , a trip is common use when you speak or are in a situation when you wish somebody who is leaving for another town or rather remote place . ' Have a nice trip ! ' ( probably rather short in time or / and direct means of conveyance : by plane , Shuttle ... for instance ) .
A journey is when you traveĺ for some time and with risks due to the long distance , the route ...and not such an idea of going fast , wasting no time : you can drive safe and stop here or there to visit .

Hope this helps .

Hello violet,

Sorry but I don't entirely agree with you.
Travel may be used as a noun
Link

A trip is a journey to a place and back again
Link

A journey is usually a travel to a far place and does not include the idea of coming back
