Bonjour,
I really like a French Poem and I tried to translate two verses in English.
I was just wondering if you could correct my sentences please?
Original:
Et la mer et l'amour ont l'amer pour partage,
Et la mer est amère, et l'amour est amer,
L'on s'abîme en l'amour aussi bien qu'en la mer,
Car la mer et l'amour ne sont point sans orage.
Celui qui craint les eaux qu'il demeure au rivage,
Celui qui craint les maux qu'on souffre pour aimer,
Qu'il ne se laisse pas à l'amour enflammer,
Et tous deux ils seront sans hasard de naufrage.

Translation
Sea and Love share their bitter taste,
For Sea is acrid and Love resentful
We drown in the Abyss of Love so we do for Sea as well
For Sea and Love are not without storm. (Comment traduire le "point?")
For the one who dreads seas, let him dwell on the shore,
For the one who dreads woes we suffer while loving,
let him not embrace the burning love,
And both of them never will be cast away.

Hello,
I think it goes something like this
The sea and love share a bitterness
For the Sea is stinging and love is resentful
We drown in both love and the sea
For the sea and love are not without storms.
For the one who dreads the sea let him dwell on the shore,
For the one who dreads the woes we suffer while loving,
Let him not embrace a burning love,
Neither one of these will be in danger of drowning.
It's a lovely poem and needs someone better than me to a more poetic translation.
