Desdehace.

My kid could paint that is a documentary film which depicts the life of four-years old Marla. This little girl is a very young painter whose abstract paintings were sold for thousands of dollars and whose notoriety starts to be worldwide.
At the beginning, the film starts to portray us a prodigy, who doesn't take any lessons and who appears to be born with a gift. Her mum seems to be a little uncomfortable with the situation because she wants her child to live a normal life.
As the filming went along, and especially after a "60 Minutes" piece aired on television, the situation got a little disturbed. Indeed, the documentary made it look like the girl was helped by father who probably pushed her to paint. Then, we learn that Marla's dad is a painter and that some of Marla's paintings don't seem to be made by her, because they are very technical and polished. When theses presumptions came out, the father was pretty aggressive, creepy. We can guess he took fame through his daughter.
As for me, the most interesting part of the movie are all these questions it engenders. Are they really the paintings of a child? Are these parents using their child, or encouraging her talents? .
But the bigger questions concern the unanswerable : was is art ? Does the age of the artist have an impact on the art's quality? What do we consider art? What are the criteria? Would Marla's paintings have received as much attention if they were made by an adult ?
The film leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Therefore, everyone can have his own feelings and viewpoints. According to me, it's a bit sad, that such a young girl is involved in a story like this one, because she never asked for anything.
