Bonjour,
je dois étudier le célèbre poème de Robert Herrick, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, mais il y a certains passages que j'ai du mal à comprendre...
Pourriez-vous m'éclairer là-dessus s'il vous plaît ?
Gather ye Rose-buds while ye may,
Old time is still a flying ;
And this same flower that smiles to day
To morrow will be dying.
The glorious Lamp of Heaven, the Sun,
The higher he's a getting ;
The sooner will his Race be run,
And neerer he's to setting.
That Age is best, which is the first,
When Youth and Blood are warmer,
But being spent, the worse, and worst,
Then be not coy, but use your time.
And while ye may, goe marry ;
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
Les passages en rouge sont ceux que je ne comprends pas. Que signifie "neerer" ? Je ne le trouve pas dans le dictionnaire. Et "goe", est-ce que c'est le verbe "aller" (comme c'est de l'ancien anglais, peut-être que l’orthographe change ?) ?

Bonjour..
It is Elizabethan English, from Shakespeare's time. "Neerer" = nearer, "goe" = go
In many editions of the poetry and prose of that era the spelling is modernised..

Here is the passage modernized :
The higher he (the sun) gets (in the sky)
The sooner his race will be run (expression: to run a race),
And the nearer he (the sun) is to setting (expression: the setting sun).
