Studied/adjectif ou adverbe

Hello,
I know we can write:
"the studied materials are..."
or
"the materials studied are..."
Could someone explain me why the second solution is right, and what is studied in this case: adjective? adverbe?

un adjectif modifie un nom
John is slow. John = slow
un adverbe modifie 1)un verbe, 2)un adjectif, ou 3)un autre adverbe.
1) he works slowly,
2) He is very slow, extraordinarily slow
3) he works very slowly, extremely slowly
votre studied est le participe passé du verbe study utilisé comme adjectif .
The materials (that are being) studied are.......

Par contre je suis étonnée qu'un adjectif puisse être après le nom car on m'a toujours dit que c'était avant.
Y a t'il une explication particulière?

vous posez des questions désarmantes!
un adjectif est soit : épithète et placé devant le nom:
He has got a nice big black English car.
Si il est mis derrière un verbe être, c'est donc une qualité attribuée au nom sujet, donc un adjectif attribut:
John is tall, thin, elegant and friendly.
le verbe être est alors un signe "égal"

In this case, present participle is being used as "adjective".

the material studied
This is a shortened form of 'the material you have studied'
You can shorten any relative clause by using participle constructions, an elegant way to shorten sentences, especially in written language.
You could call 'studied' in the above case participle or adjective, but as the construction is in principle a shortened relative clause I would prefer to call 'studied' a participle. It makes things clearer.
the studied material
This is an ambiguous wording and unclear. And it sounds wrong. Have a look into the dictionary to see what 'studied' as an adjective placed before a noun/noun group can mean. In any case it doesn't mean what you want to say.
