Bonjour,

Yesterday, around eight o'clock in the morning, the earthquake occurred making thousands of deads and more than 1 million people have been made homeless. It's all a panic here. Survivors are all trying to find their relatives and as you can see there are just debris. The boat behind me has even been moved until 6 kilometers from the coast.
Secourists attempt to save people who are still trapped under rubble. Everybody hopes that the situation will be better for all the inhabitants of South Asia who have been affected.
Thank you for all these news. On our web site many web users have asked some questions.
Here's one that appears on the screen : How are tsunamis created ?
Tsunamis are generated when a large amount of water is displaced very quickly. These phenomena include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and landslides. However, the most common cause is an undersea earthquake.
After a large mass of water has been displaced, due to gravity, waves form as the mass moves to regain its balance. This means it contains an enormous amount of energy, allowing it to travel great distances at high speeds.
When the wave is near the shore, the water piles up on itself and becomes a huge wave and crashes onto the land.
Jenny, in Colombo, thank you.
For more informations you can call the phone number on the screen
