Temps des verbes

Bonsoir

Pourriez-vous s'il vous plait me dire si l'emploi des temps est juste?

Starting up your own business means taking a massive risk; 70% of all new businesses fail in the first three years. Our survival chances are slim, and that safe regular income that paid the mortgage doesn’t seem so bad after all. We fell into a pattern of becoming discontented with our jobs, looking into going it alone, getting scared and dropping the idea.

Then we had started looking at franchises. I was sceptical. Many did not seem legitimate, advertising spectacular earnings. They left you to sell an unsellable product while the franchiser took your profits. A little research, however, shows that if you are careful, this doesn’t have to be the case. I was surprised to learn that some household names are franchises, such as Bodyshop, McDonald’s and Thorntons. Despite the national or global nature of the company, each shop is a small business. And the failure rate of legitimate franchises is a mere 10%.

Merci pour toute votre aide
Babeth

Bonsoir,

suite du texte précedent:

Starting up your own business means taking a massive risk; 70% of all new businesses fail in the first three years. Our survival chances are slim, and that safe regular income that paid the mortgage doesn’t seem (prétérit de regret)so bad after all. We fell (pourquoi pas) into a pattern of becoming discontented with our jobs, looking into going it alone, getting scared and dropping the idea.

Then we had started (prétérit)looking at franchises. I was sceptical. Many did not seem (pourquoi pas mais si on commence au prétérit, tout va suivre)legitimate, advertising spectacular earnings. They left you to sell an unsellable product while the franchiser took your profits. A little research, however, shows that if you are careful, this doesn’t have to be the case (mais on pourrait aussi mettre trois prétérits). I was surprised to learn that some household names are franchises, such as Bodyshop, McDonald’s and Thorntons. Despite the national or global nature of the company, each shop is a small business. And the failure rate of legitimate franchises is a mere 10%.

l'intérêt de l'exercice m'echappe un peu car plusieurs solutions semblent possibles.

Bonsoir Gérondif,
C'est la suite du texte : Buying into a franchise : After 13 years of working nine to five...

Hello:

I have marked in red the ones I think should be changed.

(This still happens, not just in the past - so I would use the present) A little research, however, shows that if you are careful, this doesn’t have to be the case. I was surprised to learn that some household names are franchises, such as Bodyshop, McDonald’s and Thorntons. Despite the national or global nature of the company, each shop is a small business. And the failure rate of legitimate franchises is a mere 10%.

Bonjour,

"A little research, however, shows that if you are careful, this doesn’t have to be the case".

Est ce toujours valable maintenant : présent
Ou est-ce qu'ils ont déjà fait cette petite recherche : past simple.

Quel est votre avis ?

Best wishes

Babeth.

Bonjour,

C'est bon dans le présent.

"A little research, however, shows that if you are careful, this doesn’t have to be the case".
