Bonjour
J'arrive peut-être un peu tard, mais l'expression est assez imagée:
jump in = sauter dans
at the deep end = la grande profondeur (par opposition à la petite profondeur).
Donc, quelqu'un qui saute dans une piscine dans la grande profondeur plutôt que la petite entame un travail par le côté qui n'est pas le plus simple.
En bon français, je traduirais par: ne pas choisir la facilité.
