« Snow Is Due », a book written by Antony Davies, tells the story of an immigrant called Andy, who decided to try his luck in England.
First of all, Andy met a fine lady named Maria, an immigration officer, who helped him to become a citizen of England, by making all the administrative procedures.
After that, Andy, as every newcomers in a country, hoped to be accepted by his neighbours, and, perhaps, become good friend with them. However, immigrants are not often good welcoming, and Andy has been rejected by the familly, particularly by Paul, le chef de maison. What’s more, he has been victim of disturbances and insults… But, Andy, being (étant) a good person, prefered improve his English by reading Harry Potter, instead of take his revenge, stupidly.
C’est alors qu’un jour, Andy met Paul’s wife, and one of is children, Thomas, by chance. Little by little, they finally commiserated, even if Paul said them to don‘t talk with him. Eventually, Andy became a good friend of Jenny and Thomas, but, what Paul is going to say ? Is he going to accept the friendship of her wife and his son with Andy, and become friend with him, à son tour ? Or is he going to reject him, and forbid his familly to see Andy ?
Les expressions en rouge sont celles que je n'arrive pas à traduire.
Merci d'avance, je compte sur vous !

Hello:
le chef de maison = the head of the house.
C’est alors qu’un jour = Then, one day,
à son tour = in turn
Also, since you are narrating a storyline, you should use the present tense instead of the past:
...who decides to try his luck...
...Andy meets a fine lady...
etc.
