Bonjour.

Hello marie11 !

As every morning Miss Brittle opened all the windows of his little house. Each morning she used to make the same acts, the same pace. Yet the day before she had a later night than usual. This morning she get up a little sooner. Truely this August 11 must have to be different from the other days : Arthur, the youngest of his two brothers she didn't see since her twenty-five, had wrote her some days before to tell her his coming.
Arthur ! She remembered the last time they meet each other, this meeting she had thought be the lattest. It was latter in the year, on november precisely, it was cold yet. He had told her his decision to go living in a Tibetan monastery, at the end of the earth. She had thought she would never seen him again.
Contrary to their other brother Wilson, she hadn't condemned this decision. Sure, she was the oldest of the three children, and maybe this give her an higher responsability towards her two young brothers (Wilson, the older brother of the two, had eleven-years-old less than Miss Brittle).

Hoping it's not too bad Have a nice day .

Good evening,Marie,

As every morning,Miss Brittle would open every single window of her small house. Each morning, she used to act the same way, walk the same way.Yet,the night before, she had gone to bed a little later than usual. That morning, she had got up a little earlier.Actually, that day, August 11th had to be special .Arthur, the younger of her two brothers she had not seen for twentyfive years, had sent her a letter,a few days before, to tell her about his visit. ARTHUR! She could still remember the last time they met( each other),which she had thought to be the last . It was much later in the course of the year, in November in fact, and it was already cold.He had announced to her that he had made his mind up to go and live in a Tibetan monastery, round the other end of the world .She had believed she would never see him again.Unlike their other brother,Wilson, she had not condemned that decision of his. She was indeed the oldest of the three children:that might have well been the reason why she felt most responsible for her two brothers. ( Wilson, the older one,was eleven years younger than Miss Brittle).

Thank you for this first episode..

Just like every morning, Miss Brittle opened all the windows in her small house. Each morning she would do the same things, make the same steps. Though the day before, she went to bed a little later than usual. This morning she rose a bit earlier. Indeed, this particular 11th of August was different from the rest: Arthur, the youngest of the her brothers who she had not seen for 25 years, had written some days earlier to announce that he was coming to visit.

Arthur! She remembered the last time that they had seen each other, the meeting that she had believed would be their last. It was now a lot later in the year, November to be exact, and it was already cold. He had told her of his decision to go and live in a Tibetan monastery on the other side of the world: she had thought that she would never see him again.

Unlike her other brother Wilson, she had not condemned this decision. Certainly, she was the eldest of three children, and perhaps this gave her a higher level of responsibility for her two young brothers (Wilson, the eldest of the two was 11 years younger than Miss Brittle).

Hello Marie,

As every morning, Miss Brittle opened all the windows of her small house. Every morning, she used to do the same gestures, the same steps. But the day before, she went to bed a little later than usual. This morning, she got up a little earlier. It's true that this August 11th would be different from the other days : Arthur, the youngest of his two brothers who she hadn't seen for 25 years, had written to her some days earlier to give notice of his arrival.
Arthur! She remembered last time when they had seen each other, this meeting that she thought to be the last one. It was much later in the year, exactly in November, it was already cold. He had announced her his decision to live in a Tibetan monastery at the back of beyond. She had thought she would never see him again.
Unlike their other brother Wilson, she hadn't blamed this decision. Indeed, she was the eldest of the three children and maybe she would have a bigger responsibility towards his two young brothers( Wilson, the elder of both, was 11 years younger than Miss Brittle).

Hey Marie !

Like every morning, Miss Brittle opened all the windows of her little house. Every morning she would do the same gestures, the same steps. Yet the day before, she had gone to bed a little later than usually. This one morning she had woken up a little earlier. It was true that this August the eleventh was to be different from the other days : Arthur, the youngest of her two brothers whom she had not met for twenty-five years, had written a few days before to tell her he was coming.
Arthur ! She remembered the last time they had met, she had thought this encounter to be the last one. It was way later in the year, accurately in November, it was already cold. He had announced his decision to go live in a Tibetan monastery at the end of the earth: she had thought she would never see him again. Contrary to her other brother, she had not condemned this decision.
Of course she was the oldest of the three children, and maybe it brought her a higher level of responsibility towards both her young brothers (Wilson, the eldest, was eleven years younger than Miss Brittle).

That morning, she got up a little earlier. It is true that this 11 August would be different from other days : Arthur, the youngest of her two brothers, who she has not seen for fifty-five years, wrote her several days ago to announce his visit. Arthur ! She remembered the last time they saw each other, that meeting she believed it was the last. It was very later in the year, in November exactly, it was already cold. Bonjour Marie 11.

As every morning, Miss Brittle opened all the windows of her little house. Every morning, she was used to moving around the same way, to taking the same steps. And yet, the night before, she'd gone to bed a little later than usual. That very same morning, she had got up a little earlier. Actually, this August 11th was to be different from the other days : Arthur, the younger of her two brothers, whom she hadn't seen for twenty-five years, had written a few days ago to tell her he was to visit her.
Arthur ! She could remember when they last met each other, that time she'd thought to be the last one. It was very much later in the year, in very November, and it was already cold.He had announced he'd made the decision to go and live in a Tibetan monastery, at the far end of the world. She'd then believed she would never see him again.
Unlike their other brother Wilson, she hadn't blamed this decision. Of course she was the eldest of the three children and it might have made her more responsible to her two brothers (Wilson, the elder, was eleven years younger than Miss Brittle).

Thank you very much for this exercise.

Bonjour.

Voici quelques remarques préliminaires.

I- Would et used to

"Used to" est un prétérit qui a pour but de marquer nettement la rupture avec le présent; en français on peut le paraphraser par « avant , autrefois....., mais ce n'est plus le cas maintenant »

She didn't use to be so nasty ! ──► Autrefois elle n'était pas si méchante !
N'exprime pas du tout une habitude.

I used to spend my holydays in Paris.
Avant, je passais mes vacances à Paris.

Confusion à éviter !
She used to drink a lot ──► Autrefois, elle buvait beaucoup
She is used to drinking a lot ──► Elle a l'habitude de boire beaucoup.

"Would" fréquentatif.

Frequently John would wake at night.──► Fréquemment, John se réveillait la nuit.

Remarque importante :

Dans la phrase suivante :
« He used to visit her every week » ──► Il lui rendait visite toutes les semaines.

II- Old : comparatif et superlatif.

Deux possibilités :
Old ──► older ──► oldest (cas général)
She is my elder sister ──► C'est ma soeur aînée.
He is the eldest of their four children.

III -James looks younger than his wife in actual fact he is five years older.

Dan's actually quite nice, unlike his elder brother.
On the contrary ──► au contraire.
─ « Didn't you find the film exciting ?»
─ « On the contrary, I nearly fell asleep half way through it !»
Voici ma proposition.

As she did every morning, Miss Brittle opened all the windows of her little cottage. Every morning, she carried out the same gestures, she took the same steps. Yet, the day before, she had gone to bed a little later than usual. That morning, she had got up a little earlier.
Actually, that day - August 11 - was to be different from the others : Arthur the younger of her two brothers whom she had not seen for twenty-five years, had written to her a few days earlier to announce his visit.
Arthur ! She remembered the last time they had seen each other, she remembered that meeting which she thought would be the last one. It was much later into the year, in November precisely, it was cold already. He had told her about his decision to go and live in a Tibetan Monastery, at the other end of the world: she thought she would never see him again. Unlike their other brother Wilson, she had not condemned the decision. Indeed, she was the eldest of the three children and perhaps it gave her a greater responsability towards her two young brothers(Wilson, the elder of the two, was eleven years younger than Miss Brittle)

Like every morning, miss brittle opened all the windows of her small house. Every day she do the same acts, the same walking. Yet the previous day, she had slept early than usually. That morning, she had wake up sooner. Truthly this august 11th would be different of others days: Arthur, the youngest of her two brothers, that she had not seen since 20 years, had written her a few days earlier to tell her his coming.
Arthur! she remembered the last time they had seen, of this meeting sha had thought to be the last. That was much later in the year, at November exaxtly, when it was already colder. He had announced her his decision to go living in a tibetian monastery, on the ather side of the earth:she had thought she would never seen him again.
