Hello !

Un petit travail-jeu pour vous ! Where’s the intruder?
Dans un premier temps, lire les différents groupes de mots. Ensuite, Find the intruder… ( Cherchez et trouvez l’intrus …) Pour terminer, trouver le thème de chaque groupe de mots. (en un ou deux mots)

Angelcake – Trifle – Tiramisu - Peanut butter – Upside down – Kouglov – Redvelvet.
Thème = cakes. Your intruder is Peanut butter.

Fireball – Butterfinger – Sprinkles – Jawbreaker – Sweetart – Sugardaddy – Gummy bears.
Thème = candies. Your intruder is Fireball which is a Whisky's liquor.

Pepper – Sour cream – Mint sauce – Chutney – Vinegar – Pickles – Marmite.
Thème = Sauces. Your intruder is Pickles which are vegetable or Fruit, put into vinegar and salted water.

Ginger – Carbonated – Coffee – Root beer – Cola – Lemonade – Ale.
Thème = Carbonated beveries. Your Intruder is Coffee which isn't carbonated.

Pancetta – Lasagna - Tortilla - Pizza - Mozzarella - Copa

Pickles are made with all sort of white, green, yellow, orange, red, purple or black vegetables, like carrots, corn cobs, olives, onions, peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, gherkins in salted water added with vinegar alcohol: these condiments are the most famous ones, all of them are used before the meal, at pre dinner drinks, or served whith the meat at dinner.
In France, they were also eaten with some bread, at the beginning of the meal, at poor people’s, because women cooked them, sterilised and preserved all the vegetables from the garden. This reminds us of our grand-mothers, and even our mothers, for the eldest of us… most of their daughters will no longer do it : a savoir-faire which loses over the years ! Nowadays, pickles are too expensive, aren’t they? Aren’t they eaten too fast?

Gummy bears are rubbery small old candy, flavoured with fruit or lots of additives like food colouring, with both an acid and a sugary taste, very colourful jellified bears made with some gélatine from pig’s or cow’s bones, they are mixed with a sugar base and poured into bear shaped baking tin, the problem is that your children love them and can’t stop eating them!

Don’t you know that Mozzarella can be made from cows’ milk or also from buffalos’ milk ? There is a difference between them, both about the taste and the little rubbery texture, the second is better, but also more expensive! Mozzarella is an Italian cheese, a fromage frais and soft (not a very salted cheese), with a running white and milky texture, sold in a sachet with its whey. It works wonder with tomato salad or pizza, or pasta al dente with some pieces of vegetables. Enjoy yourself!

Carbonated means with addition of carbon dioxide, this harmless gaz is introduced into liquid by a pressure regulator machine, which produces fizz and changes the taste of the beverages. Have you ever drunk a beer or a coca cola without carbonate? That is not good at all! Do you know that you can have fizz water from the tap water, by using a cylinder of carbon dioxide ? Great ! We don’t have to buy bottled water, and tap water loses its chlorine odour and its bad taste, when you put it in your fridge. That is good for the Earth as we don’t use any disposable plastic, our bottles will be used for a few years before ending in the recycling circuit, and you save your money, because the cylinder is cheaper than bottled water bought all year long ! Try it, you’ll adopt it, if you like fizzy drinks, won’t you?

Si ce n'est pas ce que tu attends, je recommence cette deuxième partie… car ce n'est pas vraiment très clair… J'ai utilisé tour à tour la forme affirmative, négative, interrogative, impérative. J'ai aussi écrit au prétérit, au présent en ing, au présent simple et au futur simple...

Thanks for these great exercises ! The second is harder to realise, of course, and the first one taught me a lot about the English recipes. There were very interesting, and offered a lot of freedom for writing about : to you !

Hello, My Dearest Choco.

Tu as très bien compris la première partie, mais je ne demandais pas une thèse sur la nutrition ! Je n'aurais jamais osé ... [mais tu me donnes des idées de leçons !] Bravo et merci pour ce travail énorme.

Pour ceux qui vont, je l'espère, venir jouer avec moi ... , je ne demande que 4 (QUATRE) phrases courtes où l'on comprendra bien ce que signifie chacun des 4 mots choisis ... C'est tout, Choco! Tu m'as fait un énorme travail (Please, tu pourrais me le renvoyer en mp car je n'arrive pas à copier les "hidden"! et je voudrais pouvoir, au moins, t'envoyer ta correction !) et je t'en félicite !
mais cool... je m'adresse à des débutants ... et chacun doit faire beaucoup plus "léger" (au sens nutritionnel !)

Hi Everybody!

Je précise que pour le premier exercice, on trouve toutes les réponses dans le Web : évidemment, quand on ne connaît pas les mots, cela demande du temps, or j'ai découvert plein de choses intéressantes à travers cet exercice d'élimination ! J'ai lu plein de recettes, qui m'ont donné un bel aperçu de la cuisine britannique et américaine, qui pour moi, jusqu'ici ne me donnaient pas du tout envie d'y goûter, ni de les reproduire. Tu as bousculé mes aprioris : j'ai trouvé quelques délices que je vais essayer, d'abord en recettes originales, puis, suivant l'expérience vécue, réadaptées à mon palais . Certes, les bonbons ne sont pas mon fort… (même ceux typiquement français que l'on trouve en France !), néanmoins tu m'as ouvert l'appétit intellectuellement parlant, et ma curiosité a été satisfaite ! Très franchement ce fut deux beaux exercices de forum, pas si faciles et chronophages pour les personnes qui n'ont pas eu l'occasion d'une telle rencontre avec ce vocabulaire, c'est vrai, mais quelle ouverture sur ces deux cultures : Félicitations, j'ai adoré !

- the most of their daughters will do it never more = most of their daughters will no longer do it!/ will never do it!

- small rubbery ancient candies,; ancient ne convient pas ici ...

(tous les autres mots qualifient des gâteaux – y compris « upside-down » qui est un gâteau aux fruits « à l’envers » … C’était un « piège » ! )

Thème = candies. The intruder is Fireball which is a brand of whisky – and some whisky-tasting sweets. The intruder may also be a « Sugardaddy » Lien internet

Theme = Sauces and condiments. The intruder is Pickles ( vegetables kept in vinegar and salted water), but it may also be « sour cream » which is the only dairy product….

Theme = Carbonated beveries. The Intruder is Coffee which is usually served hot ( ginger is also « ginger beer », a strong and dark beer : « Do you drink ginger or ale ? »)

Theme = Italian cooking. The Intruder is Tortilla which is from Spain
