Le golfe était d’un vert tranchant aujourd’hui et le calme de la mer n’était brisé que par les joyeuses gambades de l’homme et de la femme qui riaient et nageaient : sa femme, Hélène, et Latimer, le photographe du magazine New Yorkais qui était venu faire une histoire illustrée de l’île.
Nolan put his two hands on the wood fence of the veranda and unconsciously squeezed the rail of it until his arm muscles stretched to pain. He lowered his look, which penetrated the prefectly-mowed green grass, then followed the palm trees and the Australian pines to reach the beach which shone of whiteness in the sun of the end of this morning. The gulf was sharpy green today and the calm of the sea was only broken by the happy gambols of the man and the woman who laughed and swam: his wife, Hélène, and Latimer, photographer of the New Yorker magazine who had come to make an illustrate story of the isle up.
