what is the difference between:to be in time and to be on time?

Bonjour,
"On time" means "à l'heure", "in time" means "à temps". If you arrived at the station after the scheduled departure time of your train, you did not arrive "on time". But, if your train was late and you were able to catch it, you can say "I arrived "(just) in time".
Sometimes there is little difference and you can say both.

Hi,
To be in time means that you have extra time before starting your activity, and to be on time means you arrived at the starting time and you should start right away.
I give you an example of a job interview, if you got called in, they tell you a date with a time. For example 10am if you arrive at 9:30 then you are in time and if you arrive exactly at 10 you will be on time (not recommended to be on time for a job interview but it's better to be in time )
